If you shop around you'll find many different types of camping toilet, ranging from your fold-aways to a bog standard plastic portable.
Compromises... There is always a compromise, do you go for a large seat or something that's easy to store away, so you go for something that's environmentally friendly or that can be used again and again? Different situations call for different solutions. If you cant stand poop bags then the longer term, more permanent solution are the rigid plastic camping toilets. Once you get the hang of it, there pretty easy to keep clean and maintain and 'usually' there's no leakage. Although there will be the occasional 'blue bum'. You'll find many of heavy weight contenders at the Camping Toilet Blog
Go green... If on the other hand, you want a one off solution, then you cant go wrong with the biodegradable cardboard camping toilet - literally a flat pack which you assemble pretty much like one of those cardboard folders that you get from your high street stationary shop. These are great for a visit to a festival - no more muddy smelly queues! Mind you, you will have to find some way of disposing of the waste bags, which will mean a strategic visit to the portable cabins when they're less busy. Two toilets that spring to mind - the Bio Toi and the S&%! Box.
Story telling... We've all been there, done it - the trip to the camping toilet at night, the creepy crawlies, the broken seat. You'd be amazed but there are folks out there willing to share the gruesome details. They even appear on You Tube. Check out Camping Toilet Blog for more ;)
